Zariquiegui

Today I took the number 18 bus from the city to the outskirts of Cizur Mayor to begin my Camino. From there I walked to Zariquiegui. I knew from experience that part of this day is steep walking and I’m starting out very slow because I’m not in the greatest shape this year.

I am staying in the albergue here. 15 Euros. So far, it is very nice There are only two other people and we are keeping our fingers crossed that nobody wants to sleep here. Ha ha ha.

I wanted to see the little church here and so once I got showered and settled in I took a walk across the street. Just as I arrived, the lady was locking the door. If I understood her right, it doesn’t open till 8:30 tomorrow morning, which is too bad because I think a lot of pilgrims would like to see it.

I am going to eat picnic tonight. Tomorrow I only walk 6.2 k but it is the hardest day up and over Alto Perdon. I will get a pilgrim meal there but I’m saving my Euros for the Asador in Puente La Reina.

It’s nice (but weird) just to take my time. I feel the urge to get up and go further. But this first week I’m going super slow. Next week I will pick up my pace.

Here are some photos of today’s walk and of the village and albergue.
