My Camino Catalan Schedule

Today has been a busy day and it's not yet noon!

Joe and picked two big bowls of blackberries and as soon as I finish this blog post, I need to get in there and make jam and can the rest of the berries to use in winter cereal.

I learned of an app called OpenStreetMap and managed to download walking maps for every stage on my Catalan route from Montserrat Monastery to San Juan de la Peña.   I have written to see about a bed at Peña Estacion, which would break one of the very long last stages in half. If I can't get the bed, I may have to skip that stage and do it next year with Joe. I'm a little nervous trying to walk over 30 kilometers alone in that high country, but it will depend on the weather and how I'm feeling when I get there. Keeping my fingers crossed for the bed.

In the meantime, I've completed all the rest of my reservations, including two nights at the Jesuit center in Manresa to begin my walk. Here is my schedule - let's see if I can cut/paste it:

It is about 25-30 days of walking, then a break in the middle to see the big cities I often miss when I'm taking a group. Then walking from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela before I fly home from Madrid.

Here is a map from Gronze.com

I'm pretty excited. Just 3 more days.  I booked a hotel room in Portland for the night before since I have to be at the airport so early. I haven't flown Canada Air before but I looked at my reservations and just realized the only meal I'm getting is breakfast before I arrive in Madrid!  Whoah!  Anyway, I'm packing some freeze dried meatloaf and mashed potatoes, some freeze dried fruit and some nuts to get me through.  I'll have time to get lunch in Madrid before heading to Pamplona.

I'm VERY excited about getting a bed at the Cova Saint Ignasi Jesuit Spirituality Center in Manresa. Joe and visited Manresa a couple of years ago and it will be nice to see the Cave of Ignatius again and have some peace and quiet to settle into my solo Camino.

I've talked to 2 or 3 people who are either leaving the day before or the day after me. So far, I haven't met anyone walking at the same time. I'm crossing my fingers I'll meet someone to walk the last two stages with into La Peña Estación.

I am bringing a water bladder on this trip as I'm not sure of the water situation and am assuming it could be hot when I begin. I may dump it once I'm started if I decide I don't need it. I'm not a huge water drinker and that's a lot of weight to carry. I usually just carry one bottle.

Anyway, I guess I'd better get off her and make that jam! The whole house will smell so good! But I'm looking forward to being finished with it - I'd rather watch YouTube videos on the Camino Catalan!

More soon!

Annie
