When I decided to walk the Camino Frances, I made a decision to just go slow and walk half stages. Luckily, I only booked a few days ahead because I was going stir crazy yesterday afternoon after I arrived at my destination so early. By the time I got to Uterga today It was only 10:30 in the morning, so I canceled my lodging there and walked on Puente de la Reina, which translates to Bridge of the Queen. I will take photos tomorrow of Said bridge.
I managed to get a pilgrim room here so I have a nice shower and privacy tonight. I had already booked a dorm bed tomorrow and so I will go ahead and keep that and spend the day tomorrow exploring this little village. Then I walk a short stage to Cirauqui and my booked lodgings are done. From that point, I can just walk however many kilometers I feel like walking.
I have been carrying my backpack, but today I decided to use backpack transport because I didn’t want to carry it up and over the mountain and wouldn’t you know it did not arrive. Luckily, I put an AirTag in it so I know it was never picked up. Aranxta, the receptionist who has known us for years here called and supposedly it will arrive in another 15 or 20 minutes. I hope so because I’ve got some laundry to do.
In 2006 when Joe and I walked through this route for the first time we stayed in a little teeny tiny place with only one bunkbed. A lady from Mexico had arrived before us so she took the lower bunk. I took the upper bunk and Joe had to pull a mat out from under the bed and sleep on the floor. I went by that place today and took a photo just for fun and I’ve added the old photos and the new one. Boy, my hair got gray and I got some wrinkles didn’t I?
I guess that’s about it so now I will just post photos from the day. I was hoping to eat at my favorite Asador but they are closed until tomorrow, so it’s the buffet for me tonight.
More tomorrow when I go sightseeing
Love,
Annie
